Aberystwyth Cricket Club Memorial Bench

Written by Tir Coed / Monday 05 September 2016

Participants on the field carpentry training course took time out from the busy work of building the new learning hub in Coed Tyllwyd to construct a memorial bench to be installed at the Aberystwyth cricket club. Inspired by the handsome designs developed by WiseWoodsWales the group used large rounds of the Japanese Red Cedar felled by volunteers last winter to construct the bench, exposing the beautiful pink heartwood of the timber through careful planing of the wood.

The chunky-yet-elegant bench was delivered and installed at the cricket club and sits very comfortably with its surroundings. Many thanks go to Anthony Evans and the Aberystwyth Cricket Club for keeping the commission local (which will help to roof the new learning hub in Tyllwyd), Gavin Doram for leading the construction, and all the other tutors and trainees for their hard work.
