Pembrokeshire County Show

Written by Tir Coed / Wednesday 17 August 2016

Tir Coed and Coed Cymru attended Pembrokeshire County Show 2016 on Wednesday 17th August. Ffion of Tir Coed and Gareth (Coed Cymru Director) were able to discuss their developing plans regarding Cilrhedyn Woodland Centre with a number of different organisation and businesses and gain valuable feedback as well as making new links for the project.

They were joined by Geraint and Graham of Resource Efficiency Services who have been contracted to undertake a feasibility study looking at future opportunities for the Cilrhedyn Woodland Centre in North Pembrokeshire (currently owned by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority). RES were undertaking surveys to ascertain what support timber and woodland related enterprises were in need of in the locality and how Cilrhedyn Centre might support them.
The fesibility study has been funded by ARWAIN Sir Benfro and supported by PLANED (Pembrokeshire Local Action Network for Enterprise and Development) who hosted the partnership at their stand in the community zone.  Interesting discussions were had with a number of organisations including CLA, FUW, PBE Fuels, Pembrokeshire Machinery Ring, PACTO and NFU whom we hope to engage with further.

Tir Coed and Coed Cymru have spent the last year developing a partnership project that will support the people and woodlands of Pembrokeshire; engaging and advising local landowners and members of the public to manage trees and woodlands, increasing the economic opportunities from trees and timber, providing local supply-chains for timber from well-managed woodlands, facilitating training opportunities and progression routes into employment for local people and facilitating opportunities for disadvantaged groups to access the holistic woodland environment.
