Croeso cynnes i'n Interniaeth AnTir

Written by Tir Coed / Dydd Gwener 09 Chwefror 2018

My name is Kevin and I am one of the many new faces joining Tir Coed. I have taken on the role of their AntTir Intern. This internship is part of the ‘Time to Shine’ programme that is funded by the Rank Foundation.

I was lucky enough to join the team as a result of completing a successful application process with Tir Coed and then a funding application with the Rank Foundation. Tir Coed (with myself as the intern) was selected as one of the 40 successful applications from those that applied.

My role within Tir Coed involves desk based research looking at horticulture and agricultural projects with a social or cooperative aspect particularly in Europe as part of Tir Coed’s AnTir programme. AnTir translates from Welsh as ‘land enterprise’ and my role will be to develop and research a land-based project which could be implemented to widen the impact and progress of the charity.

I completed my BA in Human Geography and Education at Aberystwyth University in 2012. Originally I was planning on completing a PGCE in primary education but after much thought I decided to follow a different path and undertook a diploma in Regional and Environmental Policy a few years later. I am hoping to build on the knowledge I have gained previously for my role within Tir Coed.

Away from studying among other things I enjoying assisting with the duties in my local Catholic Parish. I am also President of a local Catholic charity, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP). The SVP is  a worldwide charity that was set up to look after those in the community that are most in need, regardless of race, social standing or faith. With this I arrange visits, help to provide practical assistance to those that need it and organise fund raising events for the society.
