Natur am Byth yn Powys!
Written by Tir Coed / Thursday 29 May 2025
We are four sessions into a so far sunny six-week programme of nature connection activities at the Rock Park in Llandrindod Wells. Funded by Natur am Byth, we have twelve participants who are either out of work or underemployed learning new skills, gaining confidence and increasing their sense of wellbeing.
Each session starts with a mindfulness meditation around the fire and an ecology walk around the park. Armed with hand lenses, id. sheets and notebooks, they learn about the plants, trees, lichen and fungi. Next, back at base camp, with the kettle and a pot of soup on the fire, they spend the rest of the day learning traditional woodworking techniques and participating in nature connected craft activities.
During the green woodworking sessions, they have worked with knives, axes, draw knives, shave horses and saws. In the craft sessions they have wet felted pictures, made hapa zome (leaf printing) cloth bags, produced wax candles with flowers and created some beautiful pottery. Let’s hope the sun keeps shining for our last two sessions!
