Delivered by our experienced Activity Leaders and Tutors, the courses provide practical learning, hands-on experience and the knowledge you need to progress towards your goals.
Award in Learning in the Outdoors
Tir Coed offers a range of Level 1 and Level 2 learning units. Some units can be taken on their own, while others form part of the Agored Cymru Learning in the Outdoors qualification.
Each unit is a block of learning and carries a credit value. Credits are awarded when a unit is successfully completed and recognise the learning and skills achieved.
To gain the Award in Learning in the Outdoors, learners must complete two mandatory units:
- Personal Safety when Learning in the Outdoors (2 credits)
- Sustainable Use of Natural Resources (1 credit)
Depending on the courses currently being delivered, additional options may include:
- Sustainable Woodland Management (3 credits)
- Practical Skills in the Outdoors (2 credits)
- Woodland Carpentry (3 credits)
- Site Assessment and Soil Management (2 credits)
- Propagation and Planting for Food Growing (2 credits)
- Plant Care and Maintenance (2 credits)
- Harvesting and Site Management (2 credits)
Completing additional units allows learners to gain more credits and work towards higher qualifications, including the Extended Award, Certificate and Extended Certificate.
The units provide practical experience and skills in areas such as conservation, woodland management, sustainability and working safely outdoors.
