  • Elan Valley Woodland Carpentry Training Course

    There will be nine days of the Agored Cymru level 2 Woodland Carpentry Training course in June at the Pen-Y-Garreg site in Elan Valley. Volunteers are really getting stuck in and have gelled into a friendly and supportive unit. Traditional round timber steps will be constructed. Volunteers will also be researching designs for the construction of a traditional Radnorshire gate in order to tie in with the heritage objectives of the Elan Links Project.

  • Past Training Achievers Certificate Presentation Day

    There will be a presentation for past training achievers on June 3rd tying in with the current training course where the achievements of previous volunteers and volunteer mentors will be celebrated, certificates presented and files returned. The training achievements of volunteers have been incredible and have led to many significant employment opportunities.

  • Powys Young Carers Fun Filled Activity Day 2

    Following on from a great day in May, Powys Young Carers will be engaging in their second of five activity days. They will be learning about the local Llanidloes woods, playing fun games and learning more about fire craft.

  • Presentation day for participants of Long Wood training course

    This day is to celebrate the achievements of the participants on the recent training course at Long Wood near Lampeter. These learners have spent the last 3 months learning the skills and techniques to construct railings and a picnic bench, along with other items. They will be presented with their work books that they have created along the way and a certificate from Agored Cymru for this course in Ancillary Structures - Field Carpentry. Congratulations to all of you!

  • Field Carpentry Training Course Coed Tyllwyd, Llanfarian

    The summer's training course at Coed Tyllwyd near Llanfarian will give trainees an insight into the timber construction process - turning a completed timber frame into a watertight secure structure using wood felled and processed on site. Participants will gain an understanding of field carpentry techniques: installing doors, windows, roofing, weatherboard walling, all using sustainably sourced materials from the woodland. If you are interested in attending this course please get in touch with project officer Joe Gardom to secure a place.

  • OPAL Tree Health session

    Barbara Brown from Museum of Wales' OPAL project will be visiting Long Wood Community Woodland to run a session of Tree Health and identifying common diseases of trees. OPAL - Open Air Laboratories encourages people to get back in touch with nature through exploring and studying their environment as part of the National Citizen Science Surveys.

  • A herbal walk around Long Wood

    Jade Mellor will be leading a group of people from the Pagan Society, Tribal Unity Wales and some Long Wood volunteers around the woodland discovering the traditions and historical uses of herbs, with a special lunch and a herbal potion to take home with them.

  • Training Course in constructing a timber shelter

    This training course will provide people from the Lampeter area with a great opportunity to learn the skills and techniques in constructing a timber shelter in the woods at Llanfarian with highly experienced tutors. This will run for 2 days a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays over 12 weeks and will be accredited through Agored Cymru. Places are limited and booking is required.
