Autumn Foraging with Jade

Autumn - a time of blackberries, sloes, haws, hazel nuts, sweet chestnuts, mushrooms and much more. A group of foraging enthusiasts joined the lovely Jade Mellor for a day in the woods at Long Wood recently. Along with another tutor Ben Allen who shared his expertise and knowledge of all things to do with trees and woods. Jade started off the day with collecting ivy flowers and left them in the autumn sun until later.
The rest of the day was spent learning about and collecting various wild fruits, late green leaves, mushrooms and flowers. Wandering through the woods in autumn is beautiful, with all the leaves changing colour into oranges, reds, yellows and browns. This autumn in particular has been stunning.
Making their way up to the Forest School area, where Ben got a welcoming fire going and where Jade shared more of her amazing knowledge as well as a ‘wild soup’ and a blackberry cake which was enjoyed by everyone!
Once back in the car park, the sun-warmed ivy flowers were bottled in spring water and a special concoction to preserve them for as a special remedy which everyone could take home with them.
All in all, a very special day.
