  • Wildlife Monitoring at Long Wood day 1

    'There are still some places available for the special activity days on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th September in Long Wood Community Woodland near Lampeter. Wildlife expert, Scott Roe, will be carrying out the final wildlife surveys in the wood as part of the VINE project and there's an opportunity to come and join in the fun with looking at some of the wildlife that lives here. All ages are welcome and you don't need to be an expert! Meeting at 10am at the timber visitor centre. Please contact [email protected] to book your FREE place'

  • Japanese students volunteer at Long Wood

    A group of Japanese students have been staying at Denmark Farm which has been organised through the UNA Exchange in Cardiff. They have spent the day volunteering at Long Wood and working with Jamie Miller and Mark Folds to install the beautiful signs for the wood that Mark made previously with a local community group - CAMFAN.

  • Powys Young Carers - Forest School Session 4 of 5

    The fourth of five lovely forest school days for Powys Young Carers in Allt Goch Woods, Llanidloes. The carers are so enjoying themselves during these enriching events. They are learning about the natural environment, green wood working and really enjoying traditional fire craft and making their own fire cooked treats. It is lovely to be able to offer the carers experiences which are all about them and their enjoyment as a welcome break from their busy lives.

  • Youth group and bushcraft in Long Wood

    Waunifor Youth Group will be visiting Long Wood Community Woodland for an evening of bushcraft fun. Sally Harvey and Leia Duffee will be leading the activities, where the young people will be building shelters, lighting a fire and whittling.

  • River Revetment Special Activity Day with Lisa Barlow, Severn Rivers Trust

    A great day is planned for local volunteers on the 22nd September. At a local rural site near Llanidloes we have Lisa Barlow from the Severn Rivers Trust discussing and demonstrating everything to do with rivers and their connection to woodlands. She will be engaging volunteers in river revetment work which will involve the thinning and felling of small trees and using them to reinforce the river banks along with the removal of non-native invasive species from along the riversides. The Severn Rivers Trust are organising exciting new paid apprenticeships for 2017 and they are a great organisation to partner with. If you would like to attend please click the 'get in touch' button to reserve your place.

  • Volunteers getting ready for big event!

    A group of local volunteers will be preparing the site for the Tir Coed VINE celebration event at Long Wood which is taking place on the Saturday 24th September. The 2 tutors, Rob Smith and Eifion Wakefield, who will be running green woodcraft activities at the event will be leading the activity, where team work will help turn the Forest School area into a welcoming and safe place for the celebration event.

  • VINE celebration event at Long Wood

    Tir Coed will be celebrating the achievements of the VINE project at Long Wood Community Woodland near Lampeter as part of the larger Long Wood Forest Fayre. Volunteers and learners who have been involved over the 3 years of the VINE project will be invited to join us for a fun day in the woods.  Everyone is welcome to join us for this celebration, where there will be demonstrations of green woodcrafts and Forest School activities for the young and not so young in the Forest School area within Long Wood. The Forest Fayre itself, will have many exciting attractions including timber 'sports'! So there's plenty to do for everyone all throughout the day. We look forward to seeing you in the woods!

  • Little ones in the woods!

    Little ones and their parents from Ti a Fi in Llanwni will be visiting Long Wood Community Woodland for an afternoon to have some fun activities including a mud kitchen, storytelling, musical instruments, treasure hunt and leaf crowns. James and Lea will be running the activities with this group of 1-4 year olds for their big adventure to the woods!

  • Ti a Fi visit Long Wood

    Llanllwni Ti a Fi will be visiting Long Wood to have some fun in the woods. These little ones are aged 1-4 years old with their parents and it may be their first visit to a wood and be amongst the trees. James and Lea will be leading the activities including storytelling, leafy crowns, music and more.
