Carmarthenshire's Roundhouse Rebuild
Written by Tir Coed / Tuesday 04 July 2023
Carmarthenshire Mentor Hannah gives us an update from the county’s 12 Week Woodland Carpentry course, who are re-building a fire-damaged roundhouse at our woodland site in Mynydd Mawr.
The course is going well, so far all of the uprights and cross-beams for the roundhouse have been replaced and the fire-damaged roof support was rebuilt today. Participants have been working hard, despite the hot weather, so I have been keeping them cool with Ice lollies! Paneling should be arriving soon to start filling out the walls again.
We have been approached by the Cyfeillion of the park to make some carved waymarkers as a side-project and our participants are completing their course workbooks either on paper or electronically, depending on individual needs.
We have also started looking at and recording the different species that live in the park’s habitats, focusing on our Biodiversity and Environmental Impact activities, with participants taking time to ‘forest bathe’ in quiet areas of the park to observe their natural surroundings.
