Coed Tyllwyd Management Planning Meeting with NRW, Woodland Trust and Tir Coed
Written by Tir Coed / Monday 13 February 2017
Tir Coed Director Ffion Farnell and Ceredigion Co-ordinator Joe Gardom met with Jim Ralph, Hayden Ellis and Greg Jones of Natural Resources Wales (NRW), Bob Shaw (Tir Coed Trustee) and Adam Thorogood (Mid-west Wales Ancient Woodland Restoration Officer for the Woodland Trust) to review the management plan for Coed Tyllwyd in Llanfarian.
This meeting was drew on the excellent report prepared by Adam, examining the management that has been carried out by Tir Coed and Wisewoods Wales to encourage the natural regeneration of ancient woodland species on the site.
It was a great opportunity to draw on the fantastic expertise at hand to establish the future management strategy for this sometimes very challenging site. A lot of very helpful input was given by all who attended, with promising partnership and support going forward. It is heartening to see the positive effects of the woodland management that have been carried out in the recent years, and to explore the possible approaches to areas in urgent need of management work to preserve the remaining ancient woodland species.
Using the findings of the Woodland Trust report, and the highly appreciated support and input of NRW, a management plan for the next 5 years is being prepared which will inform and direct the work of trainees, tutors and contractors in the woodland.
Many thanks to all who attended for their presence and contributions to the discussion, and for helping to ensure the health of Coed Tyllwyd going into the future!
