Powys Young Carers, All Regions, 8 Special Activity Days
Written by Tir Coed / Thursday 08 December 2016
Powys Young Carers have proven to be a very enthusiastic and committed organization, bending over backwards to accommodate these sessions. Young carers from all over the county have benefitted immensely with new experiences within the outdoor learning environment. Sessions were conducted within the following regions:
· Presteigne
· Llanfyllin
· Craig-y-Nos
· Llandrindod Wells
· Llanidloes
· Newtown
These sessions saw the appointment of new Tir Coed Tutors: Matt Rising and Tiffany Villiers and Support Tutor Hele Stear. Matt and Tiffany have brought an amazing array of Bushcraft and Forest School techniques, with many survival tricks up their sleeves. The carers learned the arts of creating clay moulds, willow paper lanterns, fire craft, cooking and roasting marshmallows, night games and pewter casting. The result of the latter was brilliant, from dog tags and bullet keychains to squirrels and lightsaber hilts. Also significant were camouflage and concealment activities, trapping techniques, natural garlands, learning important knots, tribal games, peer play, ghost stories and elder pea shooters. These eight sessions were a distinctly successful introduction of new activities and widening outreach to some very rural areas of the county.
I loved everything. Food! & Cooking. New games and how to roast a marshmallow. How to make a peashooter, charcoal pencils. Don’t change anything, it’s best as it is. Trees are cool!
