Youth Justice and Preventions Service - Table Building 07/08/17
Written by Tir Coed / Tuesday 12 September 2017
A group of young people supported by the Youth justice service visited Coed Tyllwyd for a day of learning field carpentry skills and some recreation in Coed Tyllwyd, Llanfarian. Ably led by Rob Smith and supported by Robin Kibble the group constructed a sturdy table for use by the group in their sessions elsewhere. Using small diameter Douglas Fir poles from the management of the woodland for the legs and milling offcuts from the building work for the table top the group constructed a solid workbench combining modern and traditional woodworking techniques.
Individuals worked together to haul some of the timber to the work area and took it in turns to nail the table top together. We were fortunate with some fine weather and with the trees in midsummer lushness the young people relished being out and about in the woods.
By the end of the day the finished product was ready to be transported in style to its new home, an achievement that everyone one should be proud of in an impressive timescale.
Thanks go to Rob Smith for leading the group, Robin Kibble for supporting and to Chris Robinson as always for being such an exemplary role model to the young people.
