Ceredigion's Welcome to the Woods

Written by Tir Coed / Thursday 21 June 2018

The Ceredigion branch of Tir Coed is celebrating the successful completion of the Welcome Week course. The 5 day taster was aimed at young people interested in working in the woodland or forestry sector. Participants learnt about woodland management, gained some hands on experience of conservation skills with a focus on health and safety, developing team working and wood-crafting skills.

The participants had a great experience and were really proud of their achievements, especially the one legged stools that they crafted using traditional hand tools and pole lathes to turn the wood. They really engaged with all of the tasks and were inspired by the tutors knowledge and skills, they gained confidence and realised that working in the woods can be fulfilling and may be a viable career option for the future.
