Bench Building in Pembrokeshire
Written by Tir Coed / Thursday 01 November 2018
Tir Coed teamed up with the Welsh Wildlife Trust to add a lordly round table to their collection of picnic benches at the Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran. Wil Nickson and Eugene Noakes led a group of 4 to 6 trainees over 5 days in the basics of oak timber framing with a twist of elegant ergonomics.
The group worked well together and were eager to start working right away. The enthusiastic trainees were cheerful throughout the whole course and their skills improved a lot over the course of the 5 days and by the end of the course showed good technique whilst using the various hand tools.
This was a progression course which will help the trainees to gain skills and experience to enable them to unlock future work and training opportunities. Everyone enjoyed the course and was asking for more. Over the next few months, we will be working with the volunteers to help them progress further into training and employment.
I would really love to volunteer on future courses, and would like to buy a woodland and work in that environment.
