Ecology Progression Week at Elan

Written by Tir Coed / Friday 25 May 2018

There was fantastic weather for our ecology progression week at the Elan Valley as part of the Elan Links project. Eight people from Powys were introduced to the main techniques for surveying and monitoring species and habitats.

The group visited some of the varied and beautiful sites around the Elan Valley and tried their hands at a variety of tasks, for example carrying out pond and stream sampling, bird monitoring, habitat mapping and plenty more besides.

I enjoyed learning a ton of names of plants and animals. Bee identifying was good fun too and I thought I learnt a lot.

I got out of the course a new found love for the natural world and a much better insight into the processes and also the need for surveying.
