Tell us a little something about yourself

I’m an artist/craftsperson from a family of creative people, and generally am happiest when making things. I like to find the positive side of things wherever possible and throw myself into projects that catch my interest. I have a degree in design (Metalwork and Textiles) and have previously been a teacher and helped to run a small woollen mill. I can usually be spotted a mile off because of my fondness for bright clothing and dungarees!

What are your hobbies?

I like martial arts, I have a black belt in Karate and help with teaching at my local club. I have a horse called Tank and love to go for long rides in my local woods, fast gallops exploring the mountains and swimming in the river when it’s hot. I’m very creative and will take any opportunity to learn new skills and crafts (especially heritage crafts). I am fascinated by folklore, mythology, superstition and stories (especially the spooky kind).

What excites you most about your new role?

Getting to spend my days outdoors, helping others to find connection with nature and learn skills that can offer new beginnings and opportunities. I have been fortunate to have had the guidance of lots of amazing people who work in the outdoors, and they have inspired me to want to support others in the same way.

What do you enjoy most bout being outside?

I enjoy being far away from technology, the hum and glare of artificial light, beeping equipment and stale air. I like to forage, cook on a fire, climb, follow streams and dark mossy paths, forget what the time is and have adventures that leave you too tired to check your emails!

What’s your favourite season and why?

Autumn, because of harvest celebrations, pumpkins, fungi in abundance, stunning colours and seasonal traditions.

If you were a tree, what tree would you be?

I’m more of a Magpie than a tree really… But if I had to choose I would say a Beech tree because the bright colour of fresh, new beech leaves in the spring is my absolute favourite and I love the way they tenaciously hang onto their orange-brown leaves in the winter, still providing colour when the days are bleak.
