Northfield Ecocentre visit Elan Valley

During the Whitsun half term, the Elan Valley was bursting full of activity. As well as an overnight retreat from Birmingham, the Northfield Ecocentre, a group of around 12 children and 4 volunteers came to enjoy activities with tutors Polly and Gavin.
The group enjoyed a number of activities during their time in the Elan Valley. They began by firelighting before making some toast and popcorn around the fire. After everyone had finished their food, they moved on to making craft items to take home.
As the site is situated next to the river, Polly and Gavin took the group down to the river to look at the different species they could find and Polly explained that the water running past came from the same place as the water the group drank in their homes.
Having completed their craft items, the group were tasked with finding a number of natural items in their smaller groups. The group thoroughly enjoyed this task and enjoyed competing against each other with older members of the group helping and supporting the younger members.
Before roasting marshmallows on the fire and making their way back to Birmingham, the group played a number of fun filled games.
This activity was made possible through Tir Coed's partnership with Elan Links: People, Nature & Water and the Birmingham Retreats project.
