Simon can't wait to get into the woods

I’m Simon, Tir Coed’s new Ceredigion Co-ordinator!
I’m very excited to get going and start on co-ordinating the many fantastic events Tir Coed offer.
Having worked in the arts for the past decade, I’m looking forward to a new start engaging the community with woodlands.
Self-taught in woodland management, I own a few acres of woodland near Aberystwyth and have developed a love for green woodworking, timber structures and forest gardens.
When not working in the office (or at home at the moment!) or at the woods I work as a heritage and eco plasterer, working with natural plasters like lime and clay.
In my down time I enjoy making music (being one half of the electronic duo, Unplyg) and walking the hills searching for historical sites.
I find the woodland has a unique ability to instil a calmness in me which in turn is a great place for gaining perspective, distilling thoughts and sparking the imagination - something I hope participants attending our events and courses will also find while at Tir Coed sites.
Favourite tree? It has to be the mighty Oak!
Favourite wood to work? I do love working with fruit trees. Cherry wood has a beautiful grain for spoons and ornamental pieces. Hazel as it has such a range of uses and chestnut for building.
Favourite woodland? Ty Canol woods in the Preseli mountains is a sure fire winner in my eyes!
Favourite Season? Autumn. The burst of colour, the leaves falling, the nights drawing in and the beautiful light on a crisp autumn morning.
