Canolfan Padarn Woodworking Sessions
Written by Tir Coed / Dydd Llun 10 Ebrill 2017
Following the woodworking sessions that Tir Coed coordinated in 2016 at Canolfan Padarn, the centre has independently fundraised to run another series of woodworking sessions this year.
Service users at the centre have been creating insect hotels (or “Bee B&Bs”!) to generate habitats for the 200+ species of solitary bees present in the British Isles. As we are increasingly aware, populations of these crucial pollinators are on the decline, and one of the most direct ways that we can combat this is the generation of suitable habitats around the garden. The variety of tunnel apertures and nesting materials in the boxes creates spaces for a variety of insects, which will hopefully prove to be cosy homes around the garden at the centre.
The sessions have been very well received by the group – with some superb tutoring from Gavin Doram and Anna Thomas who have a great rapport with the participants. The smiles in these pictures speak volumes! The group will soon begin to work on creating hedgehog houses, another animal in rapid decline due to habitat loss.
Hopefully this year the garden will have a few more visitors!
