Youth Workers from Aberystwyth have been spending a series of days in Long Wood to learn how to deliver woodland bushcraft activities to young people in Ceredigion.
They have recently spent 4 days working with tutors Jenny Dingle and Bob Shaw, learning about the woodland environment and skills such as fire-lighting, shelter building, whittling, greenwood crafts, cooking over the fire, problem-solving activities, bug hunts, tree ID, map trails and more.
The aim is to provide the youth workers with a variety of suitable activities that they can deliver themselves to young people, and this has included carrying out risk assessments for each activity. So far, one of the days has also included a session with the youth workers running the activities with a small group of young people aged 11 upwards.
The aim is to run another session where Jenny will assess the youth workers on running a day of activities safely with some young people and if they are successful, be presented with a certificate of their achievements.
